I have been a committed advocate for equality and justice in my community for many years. My work as a communications professional has given me the skills to successfully advocate for the needs of working families. I have become familiar with the operations of our State and local government in my work on the campaigns of many local candidates and I will use that knowledge to be successful in the fight against special interests.
I have served in a leadership capacity in multiple civic organizations dedicated to advancing workers rights and securing our future. I am proud to serve as the Board President for the Village Green neighborhood HOA in the West Ashley region of Charleston where I live with my amazing wife Courtney and our beloved pets.
Stand Up for Our Environment and Infrastructure!
For too long our roads and bridges have been virtually ignored in Columbia, and the infrastructure work we have done has not been done in a way that protects and preserves our natural environment. We also have out-of-state special interests pushing to allow risky off-shore drilling and dump massive amounts of nuclear waste from all over the world.
I will support properly funded road and bridge repair without gimmicks or short-changing other critical priorities. I will work to ensure all state construction projects respect our natural environment and protect our wildlife. I strongly oppose putting our amazing coastline in danger with off-shore drilling and I also completely oppose the importation of any nuclear waste.
I also support the following:
Stand Up for Diversity and Equality!
Sadly the entrenched majority in Columbia has frequently stood on the wrong side of history on issues of equality and diversity.
I will fight to ensure all South Carolinians are protected from discrimination in the workplace and by actions of the state. I support racial and gender diversity on all public boards of higher education and state boards and commissions.
I also support the right of all South Carolinians to make their own reproductive health choices.
Stand Up for Public Education and Better Schools!
The establishment in Columbia has failed us on public education. They have consistently supported schemes that would divert tax dollars from public schools to elite private academies. They have repeatedly attempted to damage our public school system by shifting badly needed education funds elsewhere.
I attended public school and I believe strongly in fully funded locally-controlled public schools. I will fight any attempt to sell out our children's education with vouchers or shift our education money to the establishment's pet projects.
Stand Up for the Rights of Working People!
The entrenched majority in the House have corrupted our labor laws in an effort to destroy workers rights following the blueprints of greedy out-of-state extremist special interests. These twisted laws impact the ability of working women and men to negotiate for fair and safe workplaces, better wages, a secure retirement, and family-friendly policies such as paid sick leave and flexible scheduling hours.
The rights to organize, bargain, strike, and act in solidarity with one another are inalienable rights grounded U.S. Constitution. These rights are recognized around the world as human rights. I will fight to roll back bad labor laws and oppose any new laws in SC that limit the rights of our workers to organize.
Working people face a difficult challenge today due to the incompetence and outright hostility to our needs from many of our elected officials in South Carolina, and our newly elected Federal government. We must stand against this rising tide of inequity.
